Canoe Guys team up with Water Matters

Canoe Guys is pleased to announce a sponsor partnership with WaterMatters.org

From an article on Water Matters, visit them and have a look around

"Water Matters is thrilled to announce a new sponsor partnership with CanoeGuys.ca. Together, we want to inspire people to "take the path less travelled" in the great outdoors, and to learn along the way about water stewardship and wilderness travel.

In May 2011, Chris Petrie and James Gillese of the Canoe Guys will embark on an epic Canadian canoe expedition from Jasper, Alberta to Fort Smith, Northwest Territories. The Canoe Guys will be selling t-shirts to promote their expedition and raise awareness about the Athabasca River, and they're donating a part of the proceeds to Water Matters. In turn, we support their efforts to help connect people with the outdoors, our water resources, and the ever-present need for exceptional water stewardship of the great Athabasca River Basin.

Their journey is truly remarkable. The estimated distance will be about 1450 km and the time spent out in the wild will be around 35 days. The young, but seasoned voyageurs will travel from the headwaters to the source, reaching out to share their experiences and messages with the public through a variety of visual and social media opportunities en route. They will also connect with local residents across the region as they stop in communities along the way."

Canoe duo to raise money for the environment (630 CHED Radio Edmonton)

2500 Km's - that's how much and how far two Edmontonians are willing to go for the environment.

Come June 1st, Chris Petrie and Anthony Fred will be in their canoe, laden with supplies for the long journey from Edmonton all the way to the Hudson Bay.

Petrie says while they re-trace famous historical fur-trade routes, they'll also be delivering gifts from the Enoch Cree Nation to other reserves.

"We just thought doing the historic fur trade route, that it was essential to bring in the Native element. They played such an essential part in the fur trade when the Europeans came over. We thought as modern voyagers this would be a great way to do it."

They'll be raising money via their website, which will then be matched by Mountain Equipment Coop.

They hope to reach York Factoy by August.
